What is managed code and unmanaged in .NET?

Managed Code


Code that runs under the common language runtime, called as managed code in .NET i.e. C#, J#, VB.NET, So CLR provides the Memory management, Garbage collection, Thread support, Debug support, Type safety, Exception handling etc. to these managed code while execution.

UnManaged Code


Code that does not run under the common language runtime, called as unmanaged code in .NET. i.e. VB 6.0, VC++ 6.0
